Greener Litigation

Greener Litigation is an initiative to reduce the environmental impact of dispute resolution and home of the Greener Litigation Pledge. The principal objective is to support the courts and court users in becoming carbon neutral (and ultimately carbon negative) and to encourage lasting change in litigation practice.

Achill Legal provides secretariat support for Greener Litigation, operating under the leadership of co-chairs and a steering committee.

The Pledge

By signing the Greener Litigation Pledge, members commit to take active steps to reduce the environmental impact of their practice, and to reduce emissions. Minimum standards include signatories either publishing their carbon data and committing to a year-on-year reduction, or if they don’t yet do so, to start that process within 12 months.

Driving Change

Whether organisations are starting out, or refining their approach, the GLP aims to give them the knowledge and confidence to begin managing their organisation’s carbon impact with resources, comms and events. In addition to this, Greener Litigation runs a series of Projects focusing on finding solutions to challenges including streamlining court bundling and the environmental impact of the use of AI in litigation.

Signing the Pledge

There are over 140 signatories to the Greener Litigation Pledge, and it is open to all organisations engaged in the conduct of litigation.
